How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?
More than three years
Where are you based? How did you end up there?
South Boston - Jamie lives and works here! Our office is directly on West Broadway in South Boston. Jamie has three young daughters, owns NAPS her business partner (Emily), employs almost 40 women, and helps THOUSANDS of expecting and new parents. She ended up here after leaving her Labor & Delivery nursing role 10+ years ago and starting a company she saw a need for. She stays for the community and challenge to truly support parents - in Boston and nationwide.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
Jamie and Emily set out to fill a healthcare gap with their business but through their social platform and podcast, have created a movement of non-judgmental parenting. In our society, deep in social media, cancel culture, and criticism, parenthood can be isolating in reality and hardships. Jamie and Emily are bringing to light the not-so-easy and not-so-perfect parts of parenthood. All so parents can celebrate and normalize THEIR right way to parent. They stand out in that they use their medical background to provide real support for parents and levity in the daily absurdity that is parenting.
We provide in-person and virtual services through every stage of parenting for every need across feeding, sleeping, milestones, and more.
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
Jamie defines success as leaving the world a better place than she found it...daily and in her full lifetime. Her motto is ``Let's empower parents to raise confident children in the next generation of life``.
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?
Jamie and Emily decided to truly lean into the business and lever up on hiring an exec team last September. The company is still self-funded as we create our own custom app to house Nurture (currently our online membership is on a third party platform, Teachable). We are in the transformation right now. We are in it deep and loving every challenge, success, and failure.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
It's a tale as old as time (well, the last 50 years). We struggle balancing being moms of 3 children (Emily and Jamie both have 3 girls!) and running a business full time (and realistically like more than full time)...
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
Jamie is big on leaning into hard days. She talks openly about when she's struggling. She communicates with the women she's surrounded herself with and we all know when to lift each other up.
How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?
Jamie is truly seeking a community of women and business owners that has been missing - especially the last few years. While she hasn't been super involved YET, we are ready to show up and create strong connections!
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
It's hard to choose from every moment we help a parent...every single day. The proudest moments come frequently, which is what keeps us going.
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
We have our exec team - Chelsea Reinhardt (mom of 2, operations), Louisa O'Donnell (mom of 3, marketing), Hannah Burns (mom of 2, partnerships), two full time admin women, and 35 nurses on staff doing in-home and virtual care. We value health, wellness, and non-judgmental approaches to help parents find THEIR right way to parent and care for children.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
We are the best friend who is a labor & delivery nurse with three kids...We have the experience. We talk to you like a friend. We have sound advice due to our medical backgrounds. We don't let you go it alone in the pregnancy, newborn, baby, and toddler stage because you shouldn't have to! We are a village.
Where can we keep up with you? What social media platforms do you use the most?
Instagram: @NurtureByNAPS. Podcast: Unswaddled on Apple/Spotify. YouTube/Pinterest light usage, being worked on.
